COP31 - Scope 3: What should companies fund, measure, and claim?

​Scope 3 strategies often stall when climate ambition meets procurement, supplier constraints, and questions about what can be credibly measured and claimed.

​This roundtable will examine one practical question: how should companies use carbon markets and related instruments to accelerate value chain decarbonization without overstating what those instruments achieve?

​We will work through three decisions:

• ​What should companies fund directly? Including supplier action, procurement standards, and logistics interventions.
• ​Where can market instruments help? Including book and claim, insetting, and other mechanisms that may support action but do not automatically represent a Scope 3 reduction.
• ​What should companies measure and claim? Including data, allocation, verification, and the distinction between emissions reductions, environmental attributes, climate contributions, and residual emissions management.
