COP28 in the United Arab Emirates

Patch is helping shape the carbon market of the future at COP28

The 2023 UN Climate Change Conference

The 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, otherwise known as COP28, will be held in Dubai from November 30th through December 12th, 2023. The annual conference brings together UN member countries to convene around progress made and additional action required to tackle climate change. In addition to state-level delegates, COP events also serve as an important convening space for other government officials, business leaders, NGOs and innovators working to tackle the climate crisis.

The Patch team will be in Dubai to take part in important conversations related to scaling global carbon removal capacity.

Whether you will be on the ground in Dubai or tracking progress from afar, we invite you to check out our continually updated event schedule, online resources, and ways to stay in touch below.

Patch hosted events at COP28

  • Panel on Carbon Markets: Digital Infrastructure for Integrity at the IETA Business Hub

Scaling the climate solutions we need to achieve our global climate goals will require integrity and scalable solutions to navigate a complex landscape of requirements. Buyers are getting more rigorous in their requirements and standards for purchasing carbon credits in the voluntary carbon markets and maintaining these standards through disparate systems is becoming impossible. This panel will explore how we can leverage digital infrastructure to create greater efficiency and integrity in the market, building a high trust and highly transparent foundation for scale.

Join us on Monday, December 4 at 12pm, at the IETA Business Hub in the Blue Zone for for our panel: "Carbon Markets: Digital Infrastructure for Integrity".

Confirmed panelists include Brian DiMarino at JPMorgan Chase & Co, Mark Kenber, CEO at VCMI, Antti Vihavainen, CEO at Puro.earth, Robert Niven, CEO at CarbonCure, and Fiona Mugambi, Chief of Staff & Partnerships Lead at Octavia Carbon. The session will be moderated by Lucy Hargreaves, Head of Corporate Affairs & Climate Policy at Patch.

This session is open to anyone with a Blue Zone pass.

  • Roundtable discussion on the future of the voluntary carbon markets

COP28 will showcase the work done to set the foundations for high-integrity VCMs, including VCMI’s Claims Code of Practice and ICVCM’s Core Carbon Principles released this year. There is critical work still to do, to align market rules and scale high-integrity demand and supply. This demands decisive and collective action.

Hosted by Patch, the roundtable will bring together government, corporates, and civil society leaders shaping the new era of high-integrity VCMs. Mark Kenber, CEO at the Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI) and Amy Merrill, COO at the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Markets (ICVCM) will co-facilitate this discussion to collectively define what action is needed, and by who, to embed integrity rules and unlock VCMs which will significantly scale climate finance by COP30.

The roundtable discussion takes place on December 5 at 10am and is by invitation only.

  • Carbon Removals at COP28 Happy Hour

Patch will co-host a happy hour event with the Carbon Removals at COP28 community on December 7 at 6.30pm. By invitation only.
